I love these things that make my home shiny & bright. I
find peace in twinkling lights and Nativity scenes, joy in jingling bells and
Christmas carols, excitement in the boxes with bows that fill the floor beneath
our Frasier Fir. The Christmas chaos has finally subsided, and we now have time
to enjoy the decorations and delights of this magical season.
Yet as I look upon the Nativity, I am reminded that the cave
was primitive. No shiny ornaments hung from an evergreen tree, no presents were
adorned with bows or jingle bells, no stockings were filled with trinkets and
toys. Things did not fall into place just as the new mama had planned; the
daddy could not provide a perfect place for the little one to lay his head; the
baby was born in the most uncomfortable of locations. And yet somehow, thousands
of years later, we look back on this night and remember a baby that still gives
hope today.
Enjoy the next 2 days; remember not the gift, but the giver;
worry not about what wasn’t under the tree, but how much you already have; wish
not for peace and quiet, but appreciate that the noise of family is one of life’s
greatest blessings; and look not at gifts and glitter to bring you a season of hope
& peace, but to the Prince of Peace for the gift of eternal hope.
"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be
with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." ~ Isaiah 7:14
